Hocus Pocus

Acrylic on canvas. Painting began soon after finishing E.V. in 2008. Following an extended break, I completed the piece in November 2010. Interesting things coinciding with the production of this work include the introduction of new ‘stop and search’ powers designed to halt the City of Melbourne’s (my hometown) knife crime. Victoria Police now have the authority to search people even without suspicion they possess weapons.

Also potentially significant, the day after this image was uploaded WikiLeaks began releasing some of the 251,000 American Diplomatic cables in their possession. Leading to founder Julian Assange being issued with a European Arrest Warrant for questioning in relation to allegations of sexual assault.
